   1.  Noble’s Helen: New Swallowtail Butterfly from AP

     The butterfly population has been increasing in the state of Arunachal Pradesh in recent times. The state is called the nature trove and is known for its biodiversity. Recently, a new swallowtail butterfly was spotted in the state. It is called the Noble Helen. The species does not occur in India. Its origin is in China, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cambodia. The butterfly has been disappearing in these countries and was recently spotted in India.







   2.  IFFI 53: Iranian film ‘Nargesi’ wins ICFT-UNESCO G

    Iranian film Nargesi by Director Payam Eskandari has won the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal at the 53rd edition of International Film Festival of India, given for a film that best reflects Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of peace, tolerance and non-violence. The film is about a man with Down’s syndrome and the burden and consequences it creates in his life.







   3.  Retail Digital Rupee on 1 December 2022

    The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced a trial for retail digital rupee (e ₹-R) beginning 1 December, with four banks in as many cities participating in the pilot programme, a month after testing the wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC). (State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank and IDFC First Bank.)The e ₹-R would be in the form of a digital token that represents legal tender. It would be issued in the same denominations that paper currency and coins are currently issued.

Talwar, the Director-Sports, Manav Rachna Education Institutions, is also the recipient of the Dronacharya Lifetime Award, given by the President of India. Apart from Talwar, Avani Lekhara, who won two medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, was recognized as the Para Sports Person of the Year, while Shrey Kadyan was recognized as the Special Sportsperson of the Year.     The US dictionary publisher Merriam-Webster announced that their 2022 word of the year is “gaslighting” or as Merriam-Webster defines it, “the act or practice of grossly misleading someone especially for one’s own advantage.” Interest in the term was up by 1,740% over the previous years according to searches of the online dictionary. The term itself came into existence 80 years ago in 1938 through gas light, Gas Light is a play written by Patrick Hamilton. Two films were made on this play in the 1940s.

    The World Health Organisation has changed the name of the disease Monkeypox to Mpox, as they receive complaints about the word Monkeypox conjuring up racist tropes and stigmatizing patients. The recommendation follows outbreaks that began about six months ago in Europe and the United States.

    Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) announced that iNCOVACC (BBV154), has received approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) under Restricted Use in Emergency Situations for ages 18 and above, in India, for heterologous booster doses. iNCOVACC is the world’s first Intranasal vaccine for COVID to receive approval for the primary 2-dose schedule and the heterologous booster dose. iNCOVACC is a recombinant replication-deficient adenovirus vectored vaccine with a pre-fusion stabilized SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. This vaccine candidate was evaluated in phases I, II, and III clinical trials with successful results.

   15.  FSSAI approved Yak as a ‘food animal’

    The Himalayan Yak has been approved as a ‘food animal’ by the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI). The move is expected to help slow the decline of the high-altitude bovine animal population by incorporating it into the conventional milk and meat industries, according to an official at the National Research Centre (NRC) on Yak in Dirang, West Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh. The ‘food animal’ tag will become official once it is notified in the gazette following approval by a competent authority.

Hostile elements from Pakistan are sending drugs, arms, and ammunition to India through drones which are creating a security problem for India. Jammu and Kashmir police recovered a consignment of weapons and Indian currency that were dropped by a Pakistani drone in the Samba district of Jammu on 24th November 2022.

    India’s automotive industry stalwart and Toyota Kirloskar Motor vice chairperson, Vikram S Kirloskar has passed away. He was 64. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), which sells a range of vehicles, is a joint venture between the Japanese auto major Toyota Motor Company and the Kirloskar Group. Vikram Kirloskar, a pioneer of India’s automotive industry, played a key role in bringing Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp to India in the late 1990s. He had a mechanical engineering degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a silver medal and a citation.Annamalai writes in the pen name Imayam and has penned seven novels, six short story collections, and a novella. His debut novel ‘Koveru Kazhudaigal has been translated into English, French, and many other Indian languages.

    India has decided to send a utility helicopter unit to the Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). Bangladesh and Pakistan, each, will also send an armed helicopter unit to this operation.Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’s Spokesperson Farhan Haq said, that the utility helicopter unit from India that is to be deployed in March will “provide much-needed support to our forces and are critical for early warning and rapid response to protect civilians”.

    Commemorating the day one of the most significant space missions to Mars was launched, November 28 is marked as Red Planet Day. After 3 previous attempts, Spacecraft Mariner 4 became the first successful flyby of Mars. The spacecraft was launched on November 28, 1964, and reached Mars on July 14, 1965. The successful mission produced 22 pictures of the Martian surface. These pictures were the first-ever close-up photos to come from deep space. This mission, along with several others that occurred afterward, has helped us learn much about the red planet.

    India has invited Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as the chief guest for the Republic Day in 2023, reflecting New Delhi’s continuing focus on the Arab world as it prepares for a year of high-profile diplomatic engagements. The formal invitation was handed over when external affairs minister S Jaishankar met Sisi in Cairo on October 16 during an official visit to Egypt, the people said. Egypt is among the nine guest countries invited to the G20 Summit under India’s presidency in 2023.

For his contribution to Theatre acting, India’s National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, Sangeet Natak Akademi, conferred him with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2011.

    The 14th edition of Aero India will be held from February 13-17, 2023 at the Air Force Station in Yelahanka, announced the Ministry of Defence (MoD). The previous edition of the biennial event was held in a hybrid model in 2021 due to Covid as there were several restrictions in place.Bengaluru-based defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will organise the event, in which exhibitors from across the world are expected to take part. It is called iNCOVACC. Intra-nasal means the vaccine is administered through nose. India has approved the vaccine and it is to be administered as a booster dose.







   51.  . India’s first graphene innovation center in kera

    ndia’s first innovation centre for graphene will be set up in Kerala by the Digital University Kerala (DUK), along with the Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET) in Thrissur, for Rs 86.41 crore. This will be the first graphene Research and Development (R&D) incubation centre in the country. Tata Steel Limited is set to be the industrial partner of the centre. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India, has given approval for the project. The project, which will be implemented with the support of the Kerala government, is expected to accelerate the state’s growth in the knowledge industry sector.

    National Cadet Corps (NCC), the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world raised in 1948, will celebrate its 74th anniversary on November 27, 2022. To mark the occasion, Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane laid a wreath and paid homage to the fallen heroes on behalf of the entire NCC fraternity at National War Memorial, New Delhi on November 26, 2022. Notably: NCC Day is observed on the fourth Sunday of November. The NCC was raised on 15th July 1948 in New Delhi, which was the fourth Sunday of the November month in 1948.







   53.  Aditya – L1 Solar Mission

    The Indian Space Research Organization is working on a space project that will study the sun. The name of the project is Aditya L1. Recently, the ISRO chairman announced that the spacecraft is to be launched in June or July this year. The Indian conglomerate Tata Group has emerged as the most valuable brand from India and also in South Asia. It is the only brand from the country in the top 100. The Global Rank of Tata Group 78. The brand value of Tata Group is US$23.9 billion. TikTok (18th) has been named the world’s fastest-growing brand in the list.     On January 24, the Odisha Government unveiled its groundbreaking initiative to establish the world's first melanistic tiger safari, set to be located near Baripada, the district headquarter town of Mayurbhanj. Key Points Unique Safari Location: The melanistic tiger safari will span 200 hectares near Baripada, with about 100 hectares designated for display purposes. The chosen site, approximately 15 km from the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR), mirrors the reserve's natural landscape. Home of Melanistic Tigers: STR stands as the sole habitat for melanistic tigers in the wild globally, as per the National Tiger Conservation Authority's 2018 report. Purpose of the Safari: The safari will house surplus tigers from Nandankanan Zoo and rescued or orphaned tigers unfit for the wild but suitable for display. Open enclosures will provide a habitat for these tigers. Elevating Wildlife Tourism: The State Forest and Environment Department foresees the melanistic tiger safari as a game-changer in Odisha's wildlife tourism sector. This pioneering attraction emphasizes the State's commitment to biodiversity preservation and conservation awareness. Feasibility Study and Approvals: The proposal, submitted to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), received in-principle approval from the Technical Committee. A committee formed by the NTCA will conduct a feasibility study before granting final approval. Additional clearances, including CZA approval, are pending. Impressive Footfall Potential: Positioned adjacent to the National Highway and close to Baripada town, the safari is expected to attract a significant number of visitors. It also serves as an additional draw for those visiting the Similipal Tiger Reserve. Conservation Awareness: The safari intends to offer a close encounter with the rare beauty of melanistic tigers, fostering awareness about their conservation needs.

   66.  Ramgarh Wildlife Sanctuary set to be notified as 4

    Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary, which is among the proposed five sites in the country, is expected to be formally notified as tiger reserve (TR) soon before the Global Tiger Summit, which is to be held at Vladivostok, Russia.  The Centre also announced the development during the 4th Asia ministerial conference on tiger conservation. The Centre has already given its approval of granting tiger reserve status to Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary, along with MM Hills in Karnataka, Guru Ghasidas National Park in Chhattisgarh. The Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary will be spread across 1,071 sq kms. A 302 Sq Km area in the proposed tiger sanctuary will be left as critical habitat for Tigers and the rest of the area will act as a buffer zone for the Ranthambore National Park. Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1982. The core areas of the sanctuary have 8 villages and are home to large numbers of wild animals like sambhars, caracals, wild boars, nilgai, and striped Hyena.

    India has successfully conducted night trials of nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni V, capable of striking targets at ranges more than 5,000 kilometers with very high degree of accuracy. According to defence sources, the test was carried out to validate new technologies and equipment on the missile that are now lighter than before.

ONDC is a non-profit organization set up by the commerce ministry’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to democratise e-commerce services and provide small e-commerce stores and online sellers with a level playing field.

He promoted the White Revolution – a national campaign to increase the production and supply of milk – by supporting the Amul milk co-operative of Anand, Gujarat and creating the National Dairy Development Board. Underlining the need to boost India's food production, Shastri also promoted the Green Revolution in India in 1965. This led to an increase in food grain production, especially in the states of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. first as Railways Minister (1951–56).He led the country during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965. His slogan "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" became very popular during the war. The war formally ended with the Tashkent Agreement on 10 January 1966; he died the following day, still in Tashkent, with the cause of his death in dispute; it was reported to be a cardiac arrest, but his family was not satisfied with the proffered reason, with his wife Lalita Shastri alleging he was poisoned. He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna.

    Joshimath, a town in Uttarakhand, faced severe challenges due to landslides and ground subsidence. The high-level central committee, led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, approved a comprehensive recovery and reconstruction (R&R) plan amounting to ₹1,658.17 crore to address the aftermath of these natural disasters. The National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) will contribute ₹1079.96 crore through the Recovery and Reconstruction window. The state will provide ₹126.41 crore from its State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and an additional ₹451.80 crore from the state budget.

   509.  India Bolsters Naval Strength With $5 Billion Airc

    India is set to reinforce its naval capabilities with the addition of a $5 billion aircraft carrier, signaling its strategic response to China’s expanding naval influence in the Indian Ocean region. The Defense Acquisition Council is expected to greenlight the acquisition of a second indigenous aircraft carrier, costing nearly 400 billion rupees ($4.8 billion). The new aircraft carrier is designed to accommodate a fleet of at least 28 fighter jets and helicopters, with a displacement of 45,000 tons. Notably, the carrier will be equipped with French Rafale jets, showcasing India’s commitment to advanced military technology.







   510.  Three Anti-Submarine Warfare Ships For Indian Navy

    On 30th November 2023, the Cochin Shipyard marked a significant milestone with the simultaneous launch of the first three ships in a series of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) shallow water crafts commissioned by the Indian Navy. The vessels, names INS Mahe, INS Malva and INS Mangrol, were unveiled in a ceremony attended by distinguished naval officials and their spouses. Each Mahe class vessel measures 78 meters in length, 11.36 meters in width, with a draught of 2.7 meters. They have a displacement of 896 tonnes and can achieve speeds of up to 25 knots (approximately 45 km/h). With an endurance of 1,800 nautical miles, these vessels are specifically designed to accommodate indigenously-developed sonars for underwater surveillance. The crew composition includes 57 personnel, including seven naval officers.

   536.  Visakhapatnam - the new Andhra Pradesh capital

    Visakhapatnam, a port and industrial city brimming with cosmopolitan culture has been in the news ever since Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government announced that it would be the new capital of the state, indicating plans to develop Amaravati – on the banks of the Krishna river – as the capital city have been scrapped. The announcement of Visakhapatnam, a new capital for Andhra comes nine years after the state of Telangana was carved out of its territory and given Hyderabad as its capital. In March last year, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had ruled against the proposal to establish three capitals in the state and directed the YSRC government to develop Amaravati as the state capital as envisaged. The Court had also in its verdict on March 3, 2022 said the state Legislature lacked competence to make any legislation for shifting, bifurcating or trifurcating the capital.
